for many cracking tutorials.

warning: newbie crackers, don't start by trying to crack Safedisc 2.60 or something first try to remove "normal" cd-checks (on games released, let's say, in 1996-1998).

What Bool's Eye is suggesting is that you start with simple cd checks (in games which aren't encrypted) to get a feel for the task.
Then after you've done many, you will be able to adapt earlier versions' tuts to your newer game versions.

Cracking games can be very simple (Deus Ex, quake) to the extremely hard (sd2, latest securom) and require much asm knowledge. If you look for Krobar in google, you'll find lots of tuts for simpler tasks.

better to learn to crawl first, before attempting gymnastics.

Yes I do, but usually only for myself, and for the fun of it.

I can't remember the tuts I looked at years ago, as I started reverse engineering old win progs before I turned to games. But the Krobar site is one of the best for all sorts of cracking apps tuts.

the other two sites are good, I've heard, as well.

If it's something you're interested in, then I'd start reversing simple cd checks first (only using any tuts as a "i'm stuck" guide to begin with)

Deus Ex is a good example of a "window box type cd check", and a good place to start.
