Try re-install?
I have a backup and 4 backups of add-ons and they all work. Even without CD's! Maybe you should completely remove all (also from Registry) and try re-installing.....

I had the original The Sims. I made a copy of it and it works fine. The original cd got cracked, I put it in my dvd drive and it shattered. Now i only have my copy. I still have all 4 expansions. no copies. I'm trying to install on my new computer. the sims isn't really installed it's just all the files and a reg hack to make it think it's the original cd. I have it stored on my hard drive. It plays fine but when I try to install The Sims: Livin' Large, it says that location "." needs 3149176 bytes but only -1kb is available. my sytem is a brand new Sony Vaio 1.6 ghz with 512 mb ram. Can anyone offer some "Real" advice? Or do I have to spend another $50 on a new original cd-rom?

hehe, setup programs aren't clever, are they
setup looks for the directory the original game is installed - that's stored in the registry. but a "." means "current directory" so setup will check the directory Setup.exe is being executed: on the CD, where 0 bytes are free.... you see the problem?try this: run REGEDIT.EXE and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MAXIS\THE SIMS change every "." to the full pathname the game is installed (like "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims"). please be careful when you make changes in your registry. then try to install Livin' Large again... hope this helps. Ok here is the exact message I recieve:Sorry, there's not enough disk space free on . 314572800 bytes are required and only -1 bytes are free.
Heree is my reg hack: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maxis] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maxis\The Sims] "SIMS_SKU"=dword:00000001 "SIMS_LANGUAGE"="USEnglish" "SIMS_MUSIC"=".\\Music\\" "SIMS_SOUND"=".\\SoundData" "SIMS_DATA"=".\\" "InstallPath"=".\\" "Version"="1.0" "Language"=dword:00000409 "BetaSite"=dword:00000001 "Installed"="1" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Maxis\The Sims\1.00.001] I hope this helps

exactly what i said
![]() so you have to change every "." by the full pathname. if you change it in the .reg file, make sure you use DOUBLE baskslashes. if your game is installed in "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims" then you have to change "SIMS_SOUND"=".\\SoundData" to "SIMS_SOUND"="C:\\Program Files\\Maxis\\The Sims\\SoundData" the same thing for the other 3 lines. got it? |
