alternative to CloneCD

I am using a Mitsumi CR4801TE writer which doesn't look like is compatible with CloneCD. Are there any alternatives? I've tried CDR Win for NHL 2002, but got an error message near the end of the read. I've downloaded Fireburner and have Nero, but don't want to end up with a bunch of coasters experimenting. Any ideas? I was also wondering if anyone knew of a list of games and the best methods to back them up.

There is an immutable law in the PS2 CD Game Backup world.

CloneCD does the 1:1 copy job. (Blindread/write runs a very close second).

To do that, the burner/reader has to be 100% CloneCD compatible, able to read/write in DAO-RAW+96 format. So having the right burner is the key (like Yamaha, Plextor).

If a burner is not CloneCD compatible it won't produce 1:1 copies with any other softwrae either.

not exactly correct charlie cause some dao86 writers r still not compatible with clone or not in dao96 mode anyway

blindread/blindwrite also does 1/1 copy and is compatible diff drives its worth a check

This time you are partly wrong Dust. You need the +96 to deal with Lib-Crypt in the sub-channel area. All 1:1 copy software needs this functionality and all such drives are compatible with CloneCD.

CDRWin won't copy EA games (those that have copy protection) into a directly bootable stste. The games Breezy has copied are not protected or he has patched them to play.

Anytime you get a READ error with cdrwin or clonecd the disc is dirty or damaged, Try copying from a different original, also charlie is correct, The burner must support efm encoding as well as be RAW DAO 96 to be 100% compatable with clonecd. RAW DAO 94 or less will not copy protected games.

Re: Re: alternative to CloneCD

The mitsumi is not compatible with clonecd Raw dao 96 so you are in a spot of bother. you will need to resort to cdrwin+patching.

So, it wasn't my computer or burner when I kept getting error messages on CDR-Win? I had a horrible time and haven't had a chance to grab another game yet. Is copying a backup the same as an original? I made a bin/cue file with another backup and no error message. Just checking.

If you have scratches on any of your CD's get out the car polish. Thats right car polish. Get a finishing kind though not a very coarse polish. Put your disc in the holding part of an old tray and use a soft cloth with the finishing polish to buff out the scratches. It can take off some fairly deep scratches. I have used this many times when the rental store has messed up games. It makes the cd's come out almost new. I would give it an 8 out of 10 when compaired to a brand new disc.

Yes you can make a copy of a copy too.

Tyler!
