Hi!
A turntable cannot be plugged in a soundcard. You won't hear anything. It must be plugged into an input called "phono". This input is found on many mixers, and several amplis. If you bought a turntable and you don't have any phono input, you must also buy a phono preampli. You'll be able to plug its output into the soundcard.

I must agree with the last message. Soundforge is the only program to use. record deck to mixer, mixer to soundcard. Usually phono plugs to a single stereo jack plug, I made my own but you can probably buy one. Just remember to check your levels before recording, you can get peaking very easily if you aren't careful. You can get plugins for soundforge for noise reduction and click and crackle removal also. The other alternative is to get a standalone audio CD recorder, but you will still need a mixer or hifi with phono input and line output.
