ok, i've never really had any problems making psx backups before. however, now i've given patching a try and its not working. i have ppf-o-matic and pal4u 2k (all the new versions).
i got pdx's ppf-patch for fifa 2002, a pal/ntsc selector... didn't work. got the rolling screen with hardly any color and the pal/ntsc selector never even came up in the beginning, like the other pdx patched games i have (they were patched already). then i used pal4u 2000 to just try a straight conversion of the game from pal to ntsc.... once again, didn't work.. pal4u found the sequences, made the patch, applied the patch, but the patch did nothing...... same result. i also got pdx's ppf-patch for spiderman 2, another pal/ntsc selector.... applied the patch... and guess what??? it didn't work. selector never appears, and the game hangs at the black psx screen. WTF?? am i doing something wrong here? 3 attempts, 3 coasters. ![]() ed: i burn at 2x, and both files are standard .bin/.cue Last edited by psx2020; 14-07-2002 at 23:06. |

Sounds like you are using CDRWin. Are you following the tutorial at http://www.megagames.com/psx/psx_patches.shtml ? I'm thinking more settings rather than the actual patching.

thanx, but.....
i don't see how any of the tutorials would help, seeing they tell me what i already know. ppf-o-matic is real easy to use, i've read how to use pal4u 2K, and of course cdrwin, to burn a .bin, you load the cuesheet nad burn the modified .bin. not complicated really.
so yes, i do use cdrwin. what could it be about the settings thats screwing things up? like i said, i've burned backups before with no problem. this time around though, i'm patching, and the patches aren't doing what they're supposed to. like i said, i apply the patches, the .bin's are modified, i burn the cd's and nothing works. spiderman 2 - game stalls on the black screen right before the pal/ntsc selector should load. fifa2002 - the pal/ntsc selector never shows up and the game just goes right to the title screen in pal mode -and- using pal4u, like i said, it finds the sequences its supposed to, it creates the P4U file, i apply it to the .bin, and the game still just loads in pal mode. and i currenty have two other games with PDX pal/ntsc selectors. however i got both already with the .bin modified. but i know how it should work. i should be able to load spiderman/fifa and i should get a screen with some graphic stuff or whatever and typically you hit square/triangle for pal, x/o for ntsc. |

psx2020, could you let us know what the settings sre you are using with CDRWin....
The make and model of your burner, the operating system you use and the media your backing up on..... the more info we have the better possition someone will be in to help you...... It sounds like you have had lots of success in the past but for some bizzar reason patches are causing you trouble..... we just need to narrow it down.....

i'm in the US
WIN 98 CDRWIN 4.x BURNER - acer 4x4x32 (same as always used) CD-R - Memorex 80min (same as always used for everything, that in-between silver/blue color, not that old school true blue) PSX - scph 9001 NTSC, internal mod, mode switchable patches used - pdx-fi2k.ppf stc-spdr.ppf both from megagames, both pal/ntsc selectors. games patching of course - fifa 2002 PAL ------> NTSC spiderman 2 PAL --------> NTSC yeah, i can't figure it out either. it should be easy as - .bin, patch, burn. the only thing i can think of is that both patches obtained by megagames are fakes or were never tested and don't work. however, that still wouldn't explain why PAL4U successfully found the sequences in fifa, but that patch failed to do aything either! |

I have checked the patch file and it seems to be the correct one.....
so, yes, it shoud be a simple matter of bin, patch, burn, the only thing that im thinking at the moment is the settings you are using with CDRWin to make the image.... it cant be the speed you are writting at because your burner has slow specs just like mine........ mind you what media are you using? ..... that could explain a lot! The read settings i use for CDRWin are all left as default apart from making sure that the RAW option is checked.... change the read speed to 4x and for the write session i again leave all the settings as default and this time leave the RAW option UNchecked. set the speed to 2x i suspect that is anything here is different then its the RAW option during the read session... Now that i come to think about it.... do you read through a cdrom drive? if so then try your writter...

Recently updated CDRWIN?
Did you recently update CDRWIN? Was your previous success in 3.9a, and problem started with 4.xx? Just a thought. I had trouble getting my burner to work with a beta copy of 4.xx. Went back to 3.9a, and it worked like a champ. Have had no need to update it, since 3.9a works for me. May want to try going back to 3.9a just to make sure it isn't a problem with CDRWIN 4.xx itself.

hmmmm.....
i've been using the same version of cdrwin for a looong time,
and yes, i do read through the writer. and the images are good, well, at least fifa, since it does run (just in PAL though ) maybe the spidey image is bad though, seeing as it fails to load at all... however, shouldn't the pal/ntsc selector load anyway, and if the game didn't work, it would freeze after the pal/ntsc selection screen?i think i'm gonna give that import player cd thing a try. although it would be nice to just have the games themselves patched....... i got two new 50 packs of cd-r's today, so i think i'll give it one or two more tries while this discussion continues..... |

Now that i have had time to think about it for a while... i remember a couple of mates had a similar problem.......it all boiled down to a badly fragmented hard drive......infact one had bad sectors on the drive........ every time a large image was created a coster was produced... smaller images were fine...have you defragmented your drive recently?
Apart from that the only other thing that springs to mind is other programs you may have running in the background, interrupting the processor... have a look with regedit and dissable anything you dont need..... It may sound like im clutching at straws now and to be honest i am..... but things like this bug me until i know the cause.....

ok, i'm starting to narrow it down here. i burned the import cd player and gave it a try on the three coasters i previously mentioned i had burned. here's what happened.....
1.) fifa2002 - the one i patched with the pal/ntsc selector could not load in NTSC, it still loaded in pal.... 2.) fifa2002 - the one i attempted to patch with PAL4U loaded perfectly and i'm enjoying a US vs. Arsenal match right now..... 3.) spidey 2 - also patched with a pal/ntsc selector, the game still failed to boot at all...... |
