Just wondering what you guys think of the price and quality of the disks on this site. Are any of them of suitable quality for PS2 backups. www.ukdvdr.co.uk |

Since G04s are very hard to find over here (except the Ridiscs, but they were not that good than Ritek or Ridata G04), it seems I have to change my brand. Any experience with those:
http://cgi.ebay.de/100-DVD-R-8x-RITE...QQcmdZViewItem (RitekG05) or those: http://www.ar-it-services.de/shop/ca...roducts_id=161(Ridata G05)? Or maybe Taiyo Yuden, as often recommended, but since they are very expensive what do you think about Verbatim with TYG02-dye, are they as good as the originals (and the ones with MCC-dye)? And does anyone know these, they are said to have TY-Dye: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1(Mirage) Which one to choose, the Riteks/Ridatas or these Verbatims: http://www.xmediatrade.com/product_i...ucts_id=901867? Would be very happy to get some advice! |

I mostly use taiyo Yuden dvd-r media. Verbatim with TYG02 dye should be excellent as well. I really cant comment on the G05 dye as i have never used it. I quit buying Ritek media when they switched to 05 dye, that and the fact i get a good deal on the TY media
People seem to have mixed results with the G05 dye. |

BeAll
At the risk of offering something new, I use BeAll. Works great.

Hmm, am I using the right dvd-r? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...photo&v=glance These are the kinds that I got -- I think my laser is messed up though, seeing now everytime I put in a game I often get that red screen saying that I need to insert a ps2 disc, or the game just never loads and my system makes skipping noises -- although it does work, but often the game skips alot....

It sounds like either your laser is getting a bit worn out or your burning your discs too quickly.
I used to use either Ritek G04 4X or Traxdata G04 4X and never had any problems with them. When 8X G05 came out and I upgraded to a DVR-109 I had a few problems with finding a decent DVD-r brand. I found that RiDisc G05 8X were very good however I always burn them at 4X. Its basic physics. The slower you burn them, the more time the laser has to make a clean deep burn so basically the slower you burn the better. The slowest my DVD burner will allow me to write is 4X so I always go for that and always get a decent burn. Well worth a try!!! But to sumarise, Ridisc should work fine. If they don't then theres a problem with yr laser or try slowing the burn. Regards

I myself always do a 4x burn, I've burned slower, and the games don't even load haha, like when I burned at 2x. I really am starting to think it's the laser, so I am probably ask what the place I sent it to be modded can do about it and if they can repair it. Now my games skip alot, sometimes I get the insert a ps2 red screen, and overall it must be the laser. Thanks for your input.

I personally find the faster the better. New dyes are made to be more stable whilst burning quickly. That is why many high speed discs return poor results when buring slowly.
Burners also contribute to this problem. Pioneers in particular dont seem to burn quickly too well - this is especially true of the older Pioneers (or so I find anyway).

@Warlock: This has nothing to do with this thread, but I am not real fond of private messaging on a public board. I use 4x Taiyo Yuden -r's. I bought 100 of them probably 7 or 8 months ago. I still have 60 left so I don't need to buy any for a while. When I do go to buy more, I want a faster speed. What speed do you use, and have you used the 16x Yudens? Where do you buy them? Thanks.

I havent tried the 16x TY yet. I use the 8x -R silver backs from www.rima.com. They use TYG02 dye and i burn everything, dvd/xbox and PS2 at 8x. I can honestly say i have never had a problem with them

Thanks. I just checked over at rima.com and they have 100 packs of 16x for $40. I wouldn't chance it though, it says in the info that they use G03 dye. Maybe if I could find them in a sampler pack. But even then, just because a disk boots doesn't mean it is good for your laser. Every single one of my 4x Yuden's boots very quickly and have never had a coaster. I assume they are G02 dye like the 8x Yuden's. That's really nice that they actually put the dye type at rima.com. I hate it when you see a good deal at other sites on Riteks or something and there is no way to tell whether they are G04 or G05.
Thanks again for the help |
