The Sims 2 + University

I am trying to install The Sims 2 University. My problem is that my Sims 2 CD4 had a horrible accident and i haven't been able to resurrect it - i need CD4 during the install. I fortunately copied all my Sims 2 CDs to my hard drive when i got the game. I tried burning the contents of the backed up CD4 to CD, but the install doesn't read from it. Is there any way of solving this?

If your original CD/DVD is broken, contact the publisher for a replacement; read forum rule #3.

With full respect to that rule, I would rather not repurchase the disc - i have a backup in the form of the CD files copied to my hard drive. I am looking for a way of using that backup to install the expansion pack.

Sorry leckie, asking for a replacement is the only legal way to do it. And, according to the forum rules, you shouldn't ask for other solutions on this forum and no one should provide you with one either.

Please understand i'm not trying to be difficult, but i don't see how my case differs from other ones that i have read on this forum e.g. "Sims 2 CD to DVD Backup" - http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=64391 and "The Sims 2 University Update" - http://www.fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=68751. These 2 threads give advice to copy the contents of your Sims 2 CDs to your hard drive for burning to DVD, and also ways of solving the need for Sims 2 CD4 during installation of the expansion.

leckie, the difference is that the threads you mentioned - and, actually, according to the forum rules, all threads! - are for people who own the original CD. Which you don't (anymore)...

The CD is still in my possesion, i don't see how ownership is defined by whether it works or not. If this does not satisfy you then i don't see any reason to continue to argue my case, thank you for your time.

Uhm, if I understand it right, you have the image or copy of the original CD in your posession, but not the original CD as the physical object you bought. (Okay, you have that physical object, it just doesn't work. Well, then you effectively don't have it. Unless you show it to the publisher, as proof of purchase, and get a replacement.)

As games today work, they require that you put the original CD into the drive. Obviously, the publisher says that it is the CD that makes you the legitimate owner of the software, not the CD image or a bill or something. See http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=70244 at which we're talking about similar stuff.
