Help! Multiple issues with DVD backup

First off, I'm on a 1.6Ghz laptop with 512MB ram, using IOmega external USB 16x/8x (+r/-r) drive. I'm using clone DVD 2.4.5.4 and AnyDVD 4.0.4.1. I use Verbatim 8x DVD-r to burn. I heard Taiyo Yuden comes out under this brand, is this true? Anyway, thanks in advance for your help!

Issue #1
Any DVD videos I copy including the menu don't work half the time. For example, I burned Margaret Cho: Revolution with "Preserved Menus". It would not play on my standalone player NOR external drive (stuck trying to load menu on both). So I use clone DVD to make a copy of it (a copy of a copy) minus the menu and it works. strange... Similar for Family Guy. Preserved the menu and half of the episodes don't play on either, but the menu works on both.

Issue #2
Most of the DVDs I burn skip/stall like crazy on my standalone player (usually around where the chapters are divided) but work fine on my computer. Some even skip on my computer (I'll get to that). I have a pretty cheap Samsung standalone player around $100. Could that be it?

Issue #3
When I try to make a copy of a copy that I can play on my computer, sometimes it gives me a read error and aborts. So I use Nero to burn and tell it to ignore errors while reading. When I do that, everything's fine except it takes literally forever. For example, at 94% my copy of King Arthur started giving me errors, which Nero tried to ignore. Problem is, at the end of 16 hours it was still at 97%! Nero usually reads data at 25,000 kbps, but was stuck at 25-50 kbps once it found the errors, even after it seemingly found all of them. So I gave up. Anyway to work around this?

That's about the extent of my problems. Thanks for reading this far, and again, thanks in advance for any advice.

your primary problems are based upon the machine you are using...........

I'm not criticizing that.............
but with that kinda CPU and RAM
these types of programs are gonna crash and screw up
if either (RAM or CPU) are occupied with anything else......

just make sure NOTHING else is using anything (RAM particularily)

and otherwise............
depending upon the sophistication of your machine
you can expect some problems

I'm not exactly "state of the art"
but I'm close
AMD 64 3800 significantly overclocked
over a Gig of Corsair 2-2-2-5 RAM
SLI
two Raptors in RAID 0
(I'm primarily a Gamer)

but sometimes they just don't "burn" right

If I waste 2 or 3 discs trying
I get worried
otherwise
just try again

and as I said to someone else................................

standalone players are the kiss of death
unless you have the latest greatest

they tend to lack the capability to play "everything"
If it works on WINDVD and/or POWERDVD
it is good
it's your standalone player that lacks the "ponies."

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah I suspected as much... in any case, is there a method you use to see if copies are ok? Because clone DVD doesn't tell me when there are errors, I normally find out later as i'm watching or trying to make a duplicate of the copy.

I have read that a few errors here and there aren't a big problem for video dvds.. so is there a way to duplicate the backup while leaving out the bad sectors? As i mentioned before nero takes forever...

You should not get any read errors. Try using dvd decrypter and copy from the original. Also try different media.
