Hi, im new here and i am mexican, so i will try to make myself clear..
I had the same problem, and i solve it. This guy up here is wrong, you have to go to control panel->multimedia->AUDIO DEVICE (this is an audio problem.. can you believe it?) chek this out, this is from max payne official site:

Is your copy of Max Payne locking up your computer when you quit it? If so, then do this, and you should be fine: Enter the Multimedia properties, change the playback & Recording device to game compatible and also reduce hardware acceleration for the sound card.

I did both things, change to game compatible, and it works. but i have to change it again to play mohaa.. so i try the next..
Change only the hardware acceleration.. it works better for me.

Ok, thats all, and please tell me if this worked for you..

c'ya.
