Exiting Max Payne

Tried all known cracks with Max Payne. Game runs fine, but when exiting/quiting game the pc stalls every time. Stalls with a white window with Max Payne heading. Any ideas.?

What you could try is before quitting press alt + tab. This will minimize the game and bring you to windows (desktop). When there you can pres alt+control+delete (not backspace) and close the game from there. Good luck in figureing it out differently.

Sounds more like a video error. When exiting the game performs a data dump of some sorts and things might be getting tangled up with your drivers possibly. I'm not certain, but it might be worth the try to make sure your drivers are up to date. Later.

I have the same problem with a backup version of Deus Ex. Hopefully that problem will be fixed as i have just made a new backup copy of it. But the problem wasnt on exiting, it was once you got killed the game froze and locked up, the only way out was to ctrl/alt and delete, close the game and then restart it from scratch to play it again. Got very tedious.

Had the same problem. Check the web site!

I had the same problem. I went to the website and you need to go into control panel then click on Multimedia.. then change the video devise to game compatable ( there should be 2 settings that you will change this to) apply it then try Max Payne again and it shouldn't lock up when you exit.

I have the same problem. I've just written it off as a loss for playing such a great game... I did the 'Game Compatible' thing. Sure... it works... if you like things like Winamp shitting themselves and overall system sound-quality something like halved. I think it's Remedy's or whoever programmed the game's responsibility to fix it up in another patch (after all, it is mentioned on their site as an error). It shouldn't be us having to tinker with settings on a system that works fine for every other game.

Though, it's most likely due to a crappy sound card or motherboard or video card or something, but still...

And for those who've never had the problem, there is absolutely nothing you can do to get rid of it. You can ALT-CTRL-DEL like once, and say to close the game, but then after you click end-task, the system goes even more frigged, and I think all you can do then is move the mouse cursor around the screen...

I have the same problem, and I have the latest version of Max Payne. I tried the multimedia settings but nothing has changed (stupid f**king windows is just a b*tch). Despite this, I still consider Max Payne one of the greatest games ever. I'm hopeing somebody will find a solution to this irritating problem.

Hi, im new here and i am mexican, so i will try to make myself clear..
I had the same problem, and i solve it. This guy up here is wrong, you have to go to control panel->multimedia->AUDIO DEVICE (this is an audio problem.. can you believe it?) chek this out, this is from max payne official site:

Is your copy of Max Payne locking up your computer when you quit it? If so, then do this, and you should be fine: Enter the Multimedia properties, change the playback & Recording device to game compatible and also reduce hardware acceleration for the sound card.

I did both things, change to game compatible, and it works. but i have to change it again to play mohaa.. so i try the next..
Change only the hardware acceleration.. it works better for me.

Ok, thats all, and please tell me if this worked for you..

c'ya.

This is a case for tech support or a Max Payne forum. Youre off-topic here.
