I've just noticed you asked for 'reasons'. The disadvantages in Option 1 are far greater than Option 2 The 7zip Progress Bar is not really a disadvantage as you can still use 7zip but with a slight limitation. Plus not many would really use 7zip for compressing in my opinion.
