I have cleaned my laser lens before but you must be very careful because you could scratch it and not see that you have.

Also, i meant were you trying to play PAL or NTSC games, because the Breaker Pro is able to be set for PAL or NTSC.

What does your Breaker Pro say on the disc label itself ?
Mine say's NTSC cersion 1.1

It's kind of strange they would make an NTSC & PAL version when it has a selection option when the disc is loaded between PAL & NTSC.....

I know when i try to play PAL games before applying a conversion patch they still play just off center and B&W just like a video would, so they should still play or load.

There are guides around on how to re adjust your laser, but you must be confident in doing things like this as you can ruin it for good.
And there are guides doing it with an ohm meter so you don't adjust it to far and burn it out totally.

Also, regardless of what burner you have, try the latest CloneCD and i bet it will let you burn at 2X & 4X.
The NTSC & PAL selector, is just for the video signal, meaning you can play any game with any setting...its just for adjusting the screen correctly.
if you play PAL game you chose NTSC and it should correct the adjustment.
You can set it to "off" too that's why its only for video mode not for playing.

Yea i read about cleaning or adjusting the lense, tho i will only try to clean, cause i don't think i am able to re-adjust it myself.

I tried CloneCD and of course i can chose lower speed, but the real writing speed is still 8x minimum, cause its hardware capped, no software can cut that.

But, if the cd and dvd lasers are two different, then i have no idea why its getting rusty cause i barely used the CD one.

Anyway, i think its best to wait for the new, hopefully scratch free Breaker CD, and if it still does not work, i'll try to clean the lense.

And no, burning speed is NOT "hardware capped" it is software.

The same principle for when new dvdr media is released and dvd drives will not recognize it or will not burn it at a higher speed which the media is rated for, in that event you need to update the firmware or "hack" the firmware if there are no updates for your drive for that specific media, then reflash your burner/drive.

I know some programs will still burn at higher speed than what you chose, some don't even allow you to choose a lower speed than 8X ect, but nero & clonecd have always burned at what i have set them to on any drive i have ever used, and i have had many many many burners/drives over the years.

I know CdrWin will only allow me to go down to 4X.

My first burner/drive was a cd burner back when 1X cd burners were top of the line, LOL!!!! & have been making backups of PSX games since the first chip was sold so i'm not new

Yea i read about that reimplementing slower speed with "new" firmware.
But actually i dont think burning them at 1x to 4x speed will make them work suddenly.
The reason my backups do not work lies somewhere else, not in burning technique, since i started with the first chips on ps1 too, and used nero back then i also know how to make them work...with a chip tho, so it's either that breaker pro CD or my PS2's laser.

Another strange thing is, when i started using breaker pro, it worked if i placed the CD in a specific way, like the CDs Label had to be lower left corner...really strange, but now that does not work either...

i read ps2 checks the outer ring of ps1 games and since my breaker pro has scratches especially on the outer ring (and refuses to load sometimes too) maybe the new disc will help.
