You seem to think you know a lot, but then you let me down at the end.

If files like game archives, data files etc have been changed, then a new executable would be needed to see these changes.

There is some strange kind of misunderstanding. Only 2 examples to show what do I mean.
1. Steamed HL-HL2 etc.
You can exchange the .exes in all thinkable order and it really doesn`t matter.
The .exe won`t change anything in any of this games.
2. Spellforce OOD, TBOW, Gold, SOTP can be played with one .exe independently.
