Uhm, is this the problem with putting maxi images onto the (NTFS-formatted) Windows system partition and then using Windows compression on them? For a test, I put a maxi image onto an NTFS-formatted partition other than the Windows system partition, on my work PC at my work place, compressed it and I won back the size of the maxi image (minus the 1 Megabyte size of the Windows-compressed maxi image) instantly. (See my test results in this thread: http://fileforums.com/showthread.php?t=73889 ) I cannot try maxi images on my Windows system partition as it has only half a Gigabyte of free space left...
[Edit] As for the smartass attitude, sorry about that! 1) I thought you were simply fooled by that guide you quoted and didn't check whether or not all steps are necessary and 2) I'm listening to discussions so that I can add confirmed tricks to the forum FAQ.

I wonder, why is that big problem to make the No-Cd patch, because mounting countless of images is becomming quite irritating for me...

Why a big problem?
I could tell you why, but no fun in that lets do the practical approach. Heres how to find out why.. 1. Spend alot of time learning ASM, API's, everything about file including headers, etc 2. Now open up your game, try cracking it. 3. Ouch didnt work did it :P |

Well, maybe it check itself over the internet for the right md5 checksum of the main exe? Then blocking the traffic make it work.
Or something like it... Certainly there has to be a way. The number of mounted devices for "no CD patches" certainly exceed the 4-ones that Deamon Tools can mount...

No, the problem for making a NOCD for this game is a tedious protection feature... But I am surprised that no one has cracked it yet. O well.
