Fileforums?

I will probably get banned for this as well, but, at this point, I really don't care. Yesterday I patched Doom 3 with their v1.3 patch. Well, as many of us now know, the patch causes the game to ask for the cd key to play. This immediately sparked a raging inferno in me to find a crack for the game. Whilst searching for information on a possible crack, I came across this forum (which I have visited before, but was not a member of). Not suprisingly there were a few posts about this patch.

I entered one thread that was started by a seemingly legitimate owner of the 0s and 1s arranged by id software, and written to little polycarbonate disks with an electroplated aluminum substrate. The poster, whom I noticed is a regular member of this forum, was looking for a solution to a problem he was having with the new update. There were the usual jerks on the thread I was reading saying the cd key-check was not allowing them to play the game with said patch. These guys usually swear up and down that they have a legit copy of the game, but we all know that if they did, the patch would not keep them from playing it. They were looking for a crack obviously, which I have, and it works. I guess I made the mistake of mentioning something about not having a cd key. <-- A bit more ambiguous than what I actually said.

I also stated that it is sad that these "crack seekers" (which I am often in the practice of doing) were insulting the intelligence of the members here by crying about a patch ruining their game that they really did buy (something I am never a party to). Yeah, right, and I'm an Ethiopian Sumo Wrestler. These programmers know what they are doing, and are not going to risk harming their own business by hindering customers from playing their games with a patch release. Besides, if there really were legitimate customers having problems with the patch, the topic would be so hot, somebody would be selling t-shirts at the mall.

I agree that a person should buy any game they enjoy. I usually do when I play through one, and determine it is worth the price. The developers deserve it. However, I disagree with the notion that you should go onto a forum and lie to people about owning a legit copy of a game. I also beleive you should not be punished for telling the truth: something Forums are notoriously known for having a big deficiency in. If you don't own the game, then just say it. No one is going to beleive you anyway. If the request is not welcome, someone may just point you in the right direction, rather than write you off as an asshole with no credibility.

With all that said, I was disgusted that I had been banned because I had the audacity to be honest on your forum. What really pissed me off was that nobody in the administration of this forum had the balls to send me an e-mail letting me know this, or why. I read through the rules, (before posting) and fail to see where I blatantly violated the constitution here. I also have read many of your threads that have references to crackz that are obviously written by, and for, warez downloaders (yeah you know who else that group includes). I just wish someone would let me know where I screwed up. I would assume (very bad thing to do, by the way) that the webmasters/administrators/moderators (whatever) know that I can reregister under a different name as many times as I wish. Why wouldn't they want to communicate with me on this? I have been using the internet for over 10 years, and have never been banned from any forum before. I am not bragging, but I have a lot of resources at my disposal (many innate) that could be helpful to the members here. I am just now getting comfortable with settling down, and sticking with one forum. I don't think it will be this one though. I don't have much time for the squeemish. I'm sure this forum will do well without me. I will take my honest ass somewhere else. Somewhere that when you defend someone's intelligence, (which I'm sure the poster didn't "need" me to do) and tell some punk to get real, you don't get banned.

All I was trying to do is offer assistance where it might have been needed. I am very good at finding things on the web, and have obtained the crack to fix the cd-check in the doom 3 v1.3 patch (ericepp**********com). I just thought since this is called FILEFORUMS, that there might be others here interested in this harmless little 1.66 MB file. ;-{)> Huh, maybe Fagforums...

No one cares here about whether you have warez at home or you don't. What does matter, however, is that you mustn't talk about warez on this forum: that is, don't ask where to get illegal copies of software, or how to make them work in case they don't really want to. It's this simple.

And, before you you'd say only pirates visit this board, let me tell you something. First, you're not an authority, so you don't have the right to question whether member X has the original copy of game Y. Second, the "innocent until proven guilty" rule should also apply here: NEVER assume that member X has a pirated copy of game Y. (Unless, as most newbies, he or she is stupid enough to say it explicitly or implicitly, or fall for the "tricky" questions, in which case he or she will get banned pretty soon anyway... ) Third, the rules are about TALKING about warez, not HAVING it. Iin case you wanted to come with the "you're all hypocrites" stuff, don't! This has been discussed many times before; use the SEARCH button.

On a sidenote: I've also been having Net access for a long time, 11-12 years. If you're also such a long time Net user, you certainly remember the so called Netiquette. It says that, when you enter a new forum, you should stay quiet for (at least) the first two weeks: don't post anything, just read threads (older and current ones). That should give you an idea on what's accepted and what's not. That could've worked here, too, I think. Good luck anyway.

I'm confused by your post. Does the 1.3 patch ask for the key to be entered or does it ask for the CD to be inserted? If you have to insert the CD, does it only require you to do this once, or everytime you play the game?

First... I never said that only pirates visit this board, and I didn't call anyone a hipocrite.

Second, who would be an authority?

Third, I could never judge a pirate. I just despise BS. BS is not hard to find, it stinks.

Furthermore, I would never wait to post on any Forum (my opinion) especially this one. All etiquett is opinion.

If you read my post you will see that my real beef is that I was banned with no coresspondence as to why.

After updating with the patch, the game requires the key to be entered upon execution. I don't think the CD (in drive) is an issue in this patch.

Is this everytime you execute the game, or just the first time after you patch?

If it's just once, I don't have a problem with that and I'll patch, but if it's everytime I'll have to skip the patch.

I really don't know, but I would be willing to bet it is only the first time.

If you said you didn't have a CD key, then the moderators rightly assumed you don't have a legal copy of the game. Thus you were banned. (And not even permbanned...) What is so sophisticated about it?

Unfortunately, there is an incredibly high and (exponentially?) growing number of people here who are unable to follow the forum rules so, guess what, the moderators don't waste their time with carefully inspecting whether someone is really a pirate or he or she just said something very stupid. (Mind you, in ambiguous cases it is exactly mostly the moderators who not only don't ban people but rather defend them from attacks of other forum members.)
