AFAIK, only pretty heavy problems can cause a complete system shutdown on modern systems (WinXP or 2K, im guessing...) - and as far as i can tell, it freezes on rendering... that points towards a video driver issue. I've run into that kind of thing on a lot of games with ATI-drivers... not that game though, it runs smoothly for me on a radeon x650. If the game is not an original (seems a fair bet around here) it might simply be a bad rip. The closest i come to advice would be to make sure it is absolutely nesecary to reboot. Give it a bit of time, listen for motion on your harddrive.. if it dosent timeout, your pretty much screwed. might try to change videodriver, but i dont think it would work. getting another copy of the game seems a better bet. If, on the other hand, you are eventually able to shut down the game without shutting down the system, the error might be fixable. A file might be missing or have a wrong parameter.
