Just points out how these online games can be social life wreckers!
I could write pages on why I hate online games, but I won't! Suffice to say a mate just cancelled his Final Fantasy Online account after 9 months because everytime I went to see him he was playing it and his wife and me was getting sick of it. He looked at how much time he'd spent online and it was 5 out of the 9 months! That's 150 days or 3,600 HOURS or 6.25 hours/day! Now that's either addiction, or compulsion due to having to pay each month to play! Sad thing is now him and one of his kids are playing WOW, and he's just as bad so his wife is back to square one and I don't bother going round as often now, so it's affected my social life too and I don't play the damn thing! |

I played Asheron's Call for over 2000 hours and I thought that was bad. Oh, but that was over 3 years.
That's why I wanted to find an off line way of playing these games. I would love to play but don't want to be hooked by other people. |

I think this should be moved to general gaming
Having said that, I have just canceled my subscription and upgraded my Cable TV channels (I used to get 1-26 now it is 1-78).. I think it's more entertaining watch TV and use the weather channel, sci-fi channel, history channel, etc.. But yeah, I am definately off the game (Last login was February 17, 2005) We will see. I was previously hooked on Magic: The Gathering, and Pirates. But those were not even PC games, still same concept of endless money and my very low willpower ![]() Good luck to all addicts of everything

There is a crack for WoW but you can't do every thing. It lets you run around and kill things but most of the NPC's aren't there and the armor is all messed up. I was running around at level 6 and killing things that where level 25. If anyone else knows of a patch that works propperly please let me know.
Thanks |

I understand that cracks are cool in that they are convenient, I don't wanna go fetch the CD everytime I play. But a crack for an online game that doesn't even need CDs to play, just so you can play offline, is like finding a crack for hotmail that lets you use it offline. It would work, but why? The best thing about WOW is grouping and guilds and so on. If you want to turn it into diablo that's fine. Oh and it's illegal to patch WOW so you can play offline (real the EULA). There are very few ways to "mod" WOW that are allowed, like UI Mods etc.. What I want to see is more patches that let us play games that don't have "directIP" (like LOTR BFME) in a LAN. Or having COOP play enabled in games that don't have COOP on the PC (but have it on the XBOX for instance, like HALO) Not patches that castrate games. Edit: made it clearer with quotes

@tbaher
lol, I think you misunderstood my patch joke? I wasnt saying to use a patch to play, I was asking if you take something (a patch) to stop the cravings. Similiar to those nicotine patches smokers use when giving up smoking. lol.

Naah I got the joke and laughed..
The rest was about something else ![]() I edited to make it clearer... The easiest way to get over a MMORPG is to play a regular RPG for a bit like KOTOR2... and realize that WOW has no story ![]() Women have a similar saying about getting over men.

Online game addicion? Hell, YEAH! I'm not an MMORPG fan, never was. But guess what? Did you hear that Anarchy Online gone free? I mean FunCom made the onriginal game(no exp. pack included) free of charge(no monthly fee) until january 2006. Is that cool? Well, I say IT'S BAD! It's so bad that it is wrecking havoc in my social life right now. And the finances too. My schoolmate told me the other day, that AO is free. We instaled the client at school and at home, and on every single Informatics class we play. (At home too). I say that it already f*cked my grades, becouse I never listen to the teacher. And my social life too. My girfriend already complainnig about neglecting her. And I have a Dial-Up connection, so IT COSTS MONEY! HUGE AMMOUNT OF MONEY! Just to stay online. For a little 1 month of playing i got to lvl 10. That's good, but AO has 220 lvls! So it looks like I have to play 22 months to peek the lvl. But the free acc is only valid until jan 2006. See? Funcom realized it that you wont stop at lvl 10 and if you wish to be 220 lvl, you have to PAY!
Does anyone know a patch or chewing gum, or the like that can take me off this cr*p without getting the shakes and craves? If continues like this I will go bankrupt, my girlfriend will leave me and I'll get fcked in Informatics class. HEEEEEELP!

just think about it and decide if you want to be that person.
I've seen a complete train-wreck personality IRL. He doesn't know how to talk to people, he's always day-dreaming. Can't wait to get back to WOW. Paying is part of why it is addictive. The compulsion to play as much as you can cause you're paying for it. Everything is good in moderation. The problem with WOW or any MMORPG is that it is very very slow and boring by other games standards. I can play Star wars republic commando for instance for a whole month because I only play less than 6 hours a week. WOW is garbage if you only play 6 hours a week or less. So you can't play it in moderation and still have fun. At least I can't. Just my 2 cents Edit: He was 35ish and will never get laid. Seeing him + taking my friends advice about "not liking to see anyone NEED something like WOW" got me off of it. I play other games too now

There's da point Tbaher!!! You are absolutely right. I had to get off AO.
AND I DID!!! Guess what? I was wandering in the biiiig mall, the Westend City Center, on Budapest and i suddenly noticed a PC games shop. Went right in and browsed for a while. And I noticed the box of SW: Kotor 2. My friend sweared his life on it, that thats the greatest game ever made. I bough it, took it home and installed it. Guess what after that? AO IS GONE FOR SURE!!! I play KotOR now, and for (well, relatively) free. No creeps, no shakes, for AO or any MMO sh*t. You were right: Moderation is the key here. I play only approx 2 hours a day, and I'm all right. My girlfriend is *satisfied* , my money is safe and my Informatics grade is slowly catching up again.THX TBAHER (and thx Lucas Arts )
