First off, are you using the latest version of Alcohol?
If repeated attempts to make a backup doesn't work, i think it's most likely due to your CD burner lacking the technical spec. If that's the case, you'll have to buy a better burner. Before doing that, though, try updating your ASPI drivers to newer ones from the Adaptec homepage. I made a flawless backup of FarCry using the latest Alcohol, a Lite-On CD-RW (48x24x48x), quality media (Memorex), and the default ASPI drivers installed from WinXP Home SP1a.
