No, sony use it's own format and it's own HDD with special firmware.
Although you can connect your IDE HDD if you have PS2 network adaptor but you need a non sony utility to fromat your HDD that still is not fully matured. the advantage : you can install compatible games on your HDD and load them faster, with BB navigator you can browse internet and download pics. movies,... and some other stuff.
