Ok. I adjusted the 'R' wire to no avail so swapped the MagicV for a Smartchip.
Cheaper Bulqpaq media still failed to boot (very unusual with the Smartmod which normally boots 100% of the time regardless of media). Other better media works perfectly. As this was my 2nd MagicV (the first works flawlessly), I'm inclined to think its a laser issue & not actually a bad chip. I'll fit the same chip into a V5 this evening & make my mind up after I've fitted a few more.
