Magic V Test Results

Finally. I have my newly modified Magic V V7 NTSC U/C PS2 back. Here are my test results.

Installation: I had a professional installer do my installation. The only problem we had is that the "r"wire must be away from all the other wires. We had to run it down the edge of the board and tape it.

PS2 Games:
Originals of Grand Turismo 2 Jap and Zone of The Enders US were tested and worked properly. Backups of Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance, Time Splitters 2, GameShark V3, Dance Dance Revolution 7th Mix Dvd Rip.

All games were tested by booting them 4-5 times each. Each game booted perfectly everytime with no hassels.

PS1 Games:
Originals of Final Fantasty Anthology, Gameshark V5, Final Fantasy Chronicles, Final Fantasy IX and Mega Man X 4-6 US were tested and were working properly. Backups of Final Fantasy Origins, Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix, and Mega Man 8 were tested and working properly.

All games were tested by booting them 4-5 times each. Each Game booted first time, everytime. One minor thing though. PS1/Dvd mode took some timing to get right. You cant just hold it until the blue light instantly comes on anymore, have have to hold it a split sedond longer to get it to boot PS1 and Dvd movies and games.

DvD Movies:

I didnt have time to test any DVD Movies. But if you are gonna watch a Dvd on your PS2, Its better to just turn the chip off :)

Overall Results:

This chip seems to be on Par with the M2. Every game tested worked great and booted the first time everytime. I am very satisfied.

Can I ask why? I have fitted one in a V7 this evening & have not separated the 'R' wire. Now CDr boot perfectly but DVDR (various media types) try to boot, then give me the rsod.

This is only my 2nd MagicV, the first one was perfect.

I was gonna swap the chip out tomorrow for a Smartchip then if need be tweak the laser. Now I'll try moving the wire & see if that helps.

Reason

The R Wire is a Timing Wire. It must be separated from the other wires so that it doesnt recieve any interference. Just play with the R wire a bit untill you get a boot, then tape it in that position.

Ok. I adjusted the 'R' wire to no avail so swapped the MagicV for a Smartchip.

Cheaper Bulqpaq media still failed to boot (very unusual with the Smartmod which normally boots 100% of the time regardless of media). Other better media works perfectly.

As this was my 2nd MagicV (the first works flawlessly), I'm inclined to think its a laser issue & not actually a bad chip.

I'll fit the same chip into a V5 this evening & make my mind up after I've fitted a few more.

Ok after further testing I will say the MagicV is not as good as the Messiah2 (or several other mods for that matter).

It will match the Messiah2 on a good machine but put it in a dusty v5 & expect no better than you did with the Magic3x.
