counterstrike half life.

I have recently downloaded counter strike and when I installed it and try to open it, it says one of the file is missing. I believe is the hl.dll file or some sort. please help. thanks

it´s nothing about warez, cs is a free modification
but it won´t run without hl.

If I don't remember wrong.. Half-life is not free.
And CS have came out in reatail boxes....

Yes, but anyone is free to try running the CS mod without half-life, even if that doesn't have much chance of success. If he starts going on about downloading HL, then I'll have to intervene.

yes...i did downloaded CS from a site. i dont' know if it was a warez page or ftp page...?
what is the significance of the hl.dll file? what does it do to the program? is it the main program to make the game work?
well in any case..hl is missing and the game doesn't even start.

That doesn't sound too legal. I'm going to close this thread, please buy either Counterstrike Retail or a version of Half-Life, you need one of these and a valid serial key to play the game anyway.
