-r is more liked by ps2. It is cheaper too. Either -r or +r will work for movies, but be sure to use the format that your dvd player supports. Look here to see what type of media your dvd player supports. Customer satisfaction is basically what makes a dvd burner good, and nearly everybody who has a Pioneer is very happy with it. I know I am very happy with mine.
