Yeah, it definitely a chip based on Neo Technology if u need RegionX to boot. Basically get rid of it, In fact sell it second hand and pick up a second hand version 5 or above and get an M2 fitted.
As mentioned, the neo will seriously reduce the laser life in yr ps2 and u would be much better with version 5 or above as they have different better laser fitted and r much more mod chip friendly laser wise!! rEGARDS
