Dumb question . . .what chip do I have ??

I bought an already chipped PS2 and I have absolutely no idea what kind of chip I have (although I'm certain its a soldered chip). If anybody can help me identify it, here are the details of my boot procedure.

I have Region X with memory card and I have to load in Region X till the region screen comes up and then press "start " to get backup to work. For some strange reason the backup rarely gets read first time. I have to reset and do the procedure a second time before the copy will fire up.

I would like to know which chip I have, because I would like to know if there's any way to play DVD backups.

My PS2 is an SCPH-10000 (JAP NTSC)

Also it's the only one of my consoles that doesn't display a clear image on my TV - even though I'm using a gold scart connector. The TV picture is around the quality of that which you get with RGB (blurred - especially the red colours)

If anybody can help me with these queries, I would be much obliged.

Thanks

If you need to use Region X to boot a backup and the chip is internal, it sounds like a Neo chip. These will allow you to play dvd backups if your laser is up to the task. Neo chips fry your laser.

Yeah, it definitely a chip based on Neo Technology if u need RegionX to boot. Basically get rid of it, In fact sell it second hand and pick up a second hand version 5 or above and get an M2 fitted.

As mentioned, the neo will seriously reduce the laser life in yr ps2 and u would be much better with version 5 or above as they have different better laser fitted and r much more mod chip friendly laser wise!!

Obviously, being a first generation Jap machine, it's a bit long in the tooth now - but back-ups are still playing okay.

Does anyone have the foggiest idea how i would go about booting a DVD-R ?? The traditional CD method doesn't work.

Thanks

Look in the boot procedures sticky under Neo 2.2.

How to boot DVD-R (only) with AR2/GS2 V2x

• Insert AR2/GS2
• Power down console, wait 5 sec, and restart console by pressing and holding reset. (Dont let go)
• After GS2 completely loads, swap with original dvd game.(high TOC)
• Wait about 15 sec and select Gameshark codes (or ar2 codes) and turn on or off any code on any game.
• Press start, select with codes and press x to load game.
• You will see a black screen saying "updating codes please wait" at this time release the reset button, tray will eject, swap with backup, tray closes and game loads.

Okay, thanks for your trouble . .

I have Region X DVD - would the same method apply ??

All the procedures in the sticky post seem to apply to AR & GS and I'm not sure if I'm able to boot with either of those.
