I don't know whats goin on at "xboxinside" but it sounds like caca poo poo to me. If you wanna believe them then just go ahead and connect to Live with your mod on but I wouldn't recommend it.
Doesn't send ifo to MS? uh, who do you think owns the Live servers that you connect to? where your account is stored? you won't upgrade the hd with an xtender bios
