No-Solder chip and laser?

I've got one and I've seen contrary opinions about whether or not it affects the laser - I thought it just over-rode the eject switch. I'm thinking of getting a flip-top case which presumably would not affect the laser but if the No-Solder does nothing to the laser there's not much point.

It doesnt affect the laser at all. i have had one for about a year now and it still works great.
