PS2 DVD Direct Backup...Possible?

I've seen postings from people asking about backing up PS2 DVDs and the answers are always the same...RIP.

However, what I'm asking here is if it's possible to do direct and complete backups of PS2 DVDs. Crazy? Maybe, but let's entertain the thought a little.

I was looking around Pricewatch for a DVD-RAM drive and noticed the Toshiba SD-W2002 DVD-RAM drive selling for ~$400. This DVD-RAM drive can burn to 4.7GB discs which I believe is what the PS2 can read (corrections anyone?). The 4.7GB discs sell for around $20ea.

I know that this can be a rather expensive venture but let's ignore price for now.

Using the Toshiba DVD-RAM drive, some 4.7GB discs, and a DVD burn software (recommendations?), is it possible to completely backup a PS2 DVD for use with a NEO2 modded PS2?

If so, how?

Also, what are the boot methods required? Gameshark 1.4 boot? EA Method?

Thanks in advance...hopefully someone here is as crazy as me. :-)
