ok first off. i dont wanna start the game with a huge ship and amazing stuff. i just want some help getting started

is there way to get rank up via the F11 command? so that i can buy some decent to moderate/medium level ships to start off and get better fighting skills/crews

And were do i buy companions/better ships beyond the start citys
