I Spy: Spooky Mansion Deluxe crack not working

Hi,
I did a search on this game, but no results, so I don't think I'm doubling up (and I'm reallllly sorry if I am - pls don't lock me out!) and I hope I've posted in the right place...

I am trying to use the no-cd crack for Scholastic I Spy: Spooky Mansion Deluxe. Game works fine with cd (which is legally owned, but showing age). Downloaded crack from here:

Followed instructions provided, but game still wants the cd to run when i try to execute (from exe file direct, or shortcut). Tried also to follow instructions which came with download in NFO file (which were similar, but not quite the same). Same result.

As regards to all the extra info the FAQ bit says I should provide, I'm risking leaving that out (though I am on Vista Home Premium - yeah, I know, I know...!) b/c I'm pretty confident that's not where my problem lies (and most of that stuff I have no idea what's being asked for, being a newby dunce...)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and thankyou in advance for showing a newby, self-taught dunce a little patience!

Thought I should add (as I'm on Vista) have already tried setting compatibility and admin settings, which didn't change anything.
