I Spy: Spooky Mansion Deluxe crack not working

Hi,
I did a search on this game, but no results, so I don't think I'm doubling up (and I'm reallllly sorry if I am - pls don't lock me out!) and I hope I've posted in the right place...:o

I am trying to use the no-cd crack for Scholastic I Spy: Spooky Mansion Deluxe. Game works fine with cd (which is legally owned, but showing age). Downloaded crack from here:

http://m0001.gamecopyworld.com/games/pc_i_spy.shtml#I Spy v1.0 [ENGLISH] No-CD Patch

Followed instructions provided, but game still wants the cd to run when i try to execute (from exe file direct, or shortcut). Tried also to follow instructions which came with download in NFO file (which were similar, but not quite the same). Same result.:(

As regards to all the extra info the FAQ bit says I should provide, I'm risking leaving that out (though I am on Vista Home Premium - yeah, I know, I know...!) b/c I'm pretty confident that's not where my problem lies (and most of that stuff I have no idea what's being asked for, being a newby dunce...)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, and thankyou in advance for showing a newby, self-taught dunce a little patience!:o

Thought I should add (as I'm on Vista) have already tried setting compatibility and admin settings, which didn't change anything.

Also use notepad to read the .nfo files provided which will say this for this crack.

1. Always make a backup copy of your game executable(s) first, because
future update patches may require the original file(s):
BHP.cxt

2. UnRAR the archive to your game directory, overwriting any existing files.
Always unRAR with full paths!

3. Make a new sub-directory called "DATA" in your game directory.

4. Copy the contents of the DATA\ directory from the game CD to your new DATA\
sub-directory of your game directory. ---- I.e. the contents inside the folder DATA on your game CD goes into the new folder made in the game folder

5. Merge/Import TNT.REG into your Windows Registry. --- right click the file or double click the tnt.reg file included in the archive you downloaded.

6. Update any of your game shortcuts (possibly on your Desktop and in your
Windows Start Menu).
You must set the "Start in:" path to your installed directory path.

Example
-------
The "Target" aka the game EXE is:
"X:\My Lame Games Here\I SPY Spooky Mansion Deluxe\spooky2.exe" <<<< Obvious X: and My Lame Games Here is not the real path on your computer its an example ;)

The "Start in:" of this Example will need to be:
"X:\My Lame Games Here\I SPY Spooky Mansion Deluxe"

Basically, you are stripping the "\spooky2.exe" from the end of the Target
and using that for the Start In location.

This is necessary for the game find the new DATA sub-directory we created.
Without a "start in" location, the game decides on it's own what directories
it wishes to be in or to search for files.

7. Play without the CD.

Did you follow these instructions also before?

Also for future reference, its an older game pre Vista time, so it could have some compatibility issues with Vista and how the game figures out where to find its data.

One way of stopping the annoying do you want to run this? window from popping up in vista ((which in fairness is a waste of space and doesnt actually prevent anything)) then you can do this

Start > Control Panel > user accounts > turn off UAC from bottom option in new window > restart PC when turned off to take affect

This will stop all that annoying warnings etc you get.

Thanks for your reply - sorry I've taken so long to respond - we have just moved into our new home, and have been having some issues getting phones connected and back online. I will let you know how I get on...

:)

Thankyou so much for trying to help me, DABhand. I still have the same problem. I tried to reinstall it and everything, but it's just not going to do anything without the disc. I tried not bothering with shortcuts and tried to open straight from .exe file. Nothing :( Never mind, I'll just use the disc for this one. But I have switched off those annoying pop up windows now, which has to be a positive:)

Thanks so much for taking the time with me. I really do appreaciate it very much!

Cheers.

Sorry it did not work for you, perhaps a kind soul will make a mini-image for this game, so you can use a program called daemon tools to fool the game into thinking the cd is in the drive when its not. But unfortunately it may not work for this game, as I seen in the .nfo file you have to copy files from the DVD also.
