Actually, bugfree releases go back into the days when there was no way to patch games because A) there was no Internet, or any easy-to-access world wide network from which any user could get any patch for any game or B) the game was/is run from a read-only media. That's microcomputers in the 80's (don't wanna mention names because I am majorly biased: visit my homepage ) and, of course, all kinds of consoles (even today).

And I see you are/have been quite attached to the C64, too...well, although I was only playing games instead of writing programs :P
