MY samsung dvd/cd writer wont Recognise a blank cd

I have a samsung dvd/cd writer not entirly sure what model etc...but it wont recognise a blank cd it just keeps on trying to read it...any steps i could take to get it to recognise a blank cd...it recognises blank dvds fine
