Final Fantasy VII- Problems loading the Chocobo racing

I am running finalfantasy VII on windows XP home, I played the game up untill you reach the Gold Saucer.
When attempting to play the mini game, chocobo racing, I get the windows serious error report.
I carrired on the game without playing the mini game but when you have to win the race to get out of the prison I get the same problems.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I have made backups of the original discs and they do exactly the same thing in exactly the same place. I have lso tried transferring the mini game folders from disc two and three into the mini game folder that has been stored on hdd after installation.
could it be that I am running this on XP and S.R. say its meant for Windows95?
Any help would be appreciated as I love the game and Im gutted i cantgo any furthur.
