Yes I'm sure, the dvdsrhink transcoding engine (latest version 3 beta5) has been significantly improved since v2.3, give it a try and you'll see.
Unfortunately dvdshrink still does not remove the layer break, I did hear it was going to be removed on the final v3 release, but I'm not sure. The layer break can be removed using ifoedit (so I read on doom9) I never had to remove it since all backups I made work fine with my dvd players, the only thing I did notice is like a 1/2 sec pause in the middle of the movie, but no freezing.
