Say what?! Microsoft used that old version of Safedisc on this new game? Mech4 Mercenaries was just released.

mechwarrior 4 uses the last one. during installation of the mech paks, it checks the cd-check by executing a program inside CDAC21BA.DLL (protected with Safedisc 2.51.2x). if cd-check successful, it installs a licence file.

every time you run the MW4 exe (even the Safedsic cleaned one) it checks for that licence file. if valid, the mech paks can be selected. if not, ... uhm, you cannot select them
Hmm. Unless the Mech Pak data files are not encrypted, it seems to me that a Safedisc deprotected MW4.exe could be easily patched to bypass the license file check and just always enable the Mech Paks.
