I need a noCD Crack for MechWarrior 4 Mercenaries.

do the mek paks work for this game?

What kind of protection?
 

I am thinking of buying this game. What kind of copy-protection does it have? Microsoft usually uses Safedisc, but which version does this title use if it is Safedisc? Does this game use any type of "activation" or serial number protection?

it uses a combination of Safedisc and Safecast.

the main exe is protected with Safedisc 1.50.20, you can unwrap it easily with unsafedisc 1.5.5 or Safedisc Annihilator 1.1.

safecast can be used in several ways:
- trial period: you can only use the program for a limited number of days. after the expiration, you cannot use it anymore (until you clean sector 32 of your hard drive ;) )
- product activation after transaction: before you can use the product, you have to purchase for it.
- product activation after cd-check.

mechwarrior 4 uses the last one. during installation of the mech paks, it checks the cd-check by executing a program inside CDAC21BA.DLL (protected with Safedisc 2.51.2x). if cd-check successful, it installs a licence file.

every time you run the MW4 exe (even the Safedsic cleaned one) it checks for that licence file. if valid, the mech paks can be selected. if not, ... uhm, you cannot select them :)

Hmm. Unless the Mech Pak data files are not encrypted, it seems to me that a Safedisc deprotected MW4.exe could be easily patched to bypass the license file check and just always enable the Mech Paks.

could be easily patched ? yeah... good luck :p That Safecast garbage is hardcoded into the exe. i have tried to patch it, but no luck so far.

You misunderstood my suggestion.
 

You missed my point. My point is why try to pick a heavy-duty lock protecting a fence if you can just jump over the fence?

Unless the Mech Pack data files themselves are encrypted and can only be decrypted by the safecast code, then bypassing the safecast license file check and just enabling the button or whatever is disabled that prevents the mech paks from being selected would seem to be relatively easy.

installed mercs and both mech packs but only the clan re-pack version is working at the moment :-(

uhm, why don't you create the crack yourself ?
unSafedisc 1.5.5 (Win9x/ME only) and Safedisc Annihilator should be able to do it.
