Help with HalfLife 2, I know old news, help still needed

I have a friend that wants to buy a copy of Halflife 2. But, the activiation has to be on line. He does not have an internet connection at home. Is there a patch or file that gets around the internet check. He wants a legal copy, but just does not have the internet. Helpw with this is greatly appreciated.
