CMR 05 Crashing to desktop on startup

Haven't played this game for a while but used to work fine with ultima.
Fired it up today and the screen goes black, after a couple of seconds I get the standard windows crash reporting dialogue. Occasionally when I try to start the game I get an out of scan range error form my display, but this occurs rather randomly. I have tried a number of the switches in the read me txt incl novideo (already enabled) and safe mode, with no effect.
The only thing that’s different on my system from when the game used to run is the Video card, an Nvidia Geforce 7800GS, with 84.21 drivers.
Anyone else having this prob or know how to sort it?

Thanks for the post/reply, but the file has not corrected the crash on startup problem (after the copy protection fooled message).
I've applied the Ultima patch, updated nero to 6.6.1.4, and added the novideo switch to the startup shortcut/icon.
