dvd+r working better than dvd-r

Well, I had some problems with my ps2 a while ago, in which my ps2 would skip on backups, and I was using dvd+r. I have a ps2, version 7, with a matrix infinity. I decided to get dvd-r and make backups using those, and I just got done doing san andreas, and it skips like crazy. The dvd+r actually works alot better. I figured maybe this was just a problem with San Andreas, because I have made backups of x-men legends 2, sly 3, and they work just fine, so I decided to make a back up of x-men legends the first one, and it skips like crazy, while the dvd+r back up that I make is working great. I have heard that dvd+r are crappy, yet the dvd-r is having probs, while the dvd+r is working just fine.

-- I think what I'm going to do is open up my PS2 and clean the laser, then see what happens.

I'm using ritek dvd-r

The programs used to create the iso for backup is dvd decrypter, and the program used to burn is alcohol 120%

The dvd+r is ritek brand also.

What is weird is that the dvd+r is actually working faster than the dvd-r. My dvd-r backups keep going slow, freezing, etc, while my dvd+r, while sometimes they do mess up and my system makes a clicking noise -- they do it far less, and never go as slow as my dvd-r -- the dvd-r, for some reason, will just pause at certain points. I suppose that either A. I need to clean my system, or B. I need a new laser?

I'm just kind of confused as to what to do, like if I get a new laser, if my backups that are dvd-r will start working better, or if I clean my system, my dvd-r will start working better.

I was thinking of getting this guide: http://www.richspsxparts.com/ucgcd.html

They have videos on laser replacement, if it comes to that -- which I'm starting to think it will...

when you create image on dvd decrypter use it also to burn the image !!!
might be wrong but their could be a slight conflict with the 2 progs as far as create with 1 and burn with tother.
and dependant on how old your roms are burn a bit slower than normal !! unless they are new ?? if so burn full speed ahead.
got to be worth a try before goin down the laser route

The DVD's are 8x, I burn at 4x -- everytime I have burned at less the DVD doesn't work at all, unless it was a dvd+r, but the dvd-r only work at 4.0x, which is the maximum it will burn the dvd-r anyways. I will give what you suggested a try. Peace.

Hmm, I tried what you suggested, but the same results, I think tomorrow I am going to try cleaning the laser(my brother has opened my system before and knows how to do it)and then I will try seeing how stuff works, and if it is still more the same, then I am going to go ahead and see about getting a new laser and the guide at that site I was at -- I might also try cleaning the little gear, as suggested on the site I had posted earlier. Thanks for you replies.
