hey dude....when i right click on my network connections on my desktop and choose properties, i have two local area connections. the one that is integrated in my motherboard is enabled and is functioning. the other one that is one of my pci slots is enabled but it says network cable unplugged. i think this is weird then sense i have my xbox connected with a crossover cable to that nic card. i guess windows xp hasnt recognized it and i know i have a crossover cable too.

when i plug my xbox to my adsl router with the crossover cable i get the static ip address 192.168.0.157 all the time flawlessly. i tried 5 times just to see if it would change or whatever and i still get the same one. so if i feel that i cant do it then im gonna exchange this router for a adsl router that has 2 slots in the back...not just one then. i think this will make my life easier

nope..im still having a hard time with configuring the nic that is connected to my xbox. i feel that this method isnt for me as this method is driving me nuts. instead i think im gonna a buy a dsl router with multi port ethernet. this will make it alot easier for me.

this is exactley what i did

connected xbox to pc nic using crossover cable. windows xp recognises the connection and shows the network icon in the bottom right corner of the desktop.

press start / connect to / show all connections.
click on the nic card which is shown as active. a small box will appear. click on internet protoco (TCP/ IP) THEN PROPERTIES.
set ip 192.168.0.5
subnet mask. 255.255.255.000
default gateway 192.168.0.1

set xbox to ip 192.168.0.3.

set flash fxp as follows 192.168.000.003
port 21
password xbox
user name xbox.

now every thing works perfectley. i did exactley the same for my uncle but i used his built in nic card

the thing is that my windows xp doesnt recognize the xbox using a nic. i have run the crossover cable to the nic and my pc still doesnt recognize it. when i go to my network connections i have two local area connections. local area connection 1 is for my pc and this works good but local area connection 2(which is the nic used for my xbox) it has the phrase "network cable unplugged" by the icon. i cannot proceed forward until i have this corrected cause i think changing the ip address on that nic wont do me any good if i cant overcome that obstacle first.

there could only be 3 reasons for this.

1 you do not have a crossover cable.

2 you do have a crossover cable but it is nackered.

3 you'r nic card is nackered so buy a new one you can get a set of 2 from pc world for about £10.00

actually i know that my nic is not messed up cause i change the rj45 cable from the integrated ethernet from the motherboard to the installed nic and my adsl router gave it a ip address flawlessly and i was able to log on to the internet.

ok then i would sugest you go to you'r local hardware store and buy a new crossover cable.
i have both a crossover cable and a straite cable. with the crossover cable xp instantley recognises the network connection even though you can not connect to the xbox untill the nic is configured. with the straite cable nothing at all does not recognise the connection get the cable not connected message
