Patch Cable?

Well....Let me see if I got this right.....

I have my network set up with a router...Everything works great. So if I want to hook the box up directly I need a patch cable......So...I had one made and I plug it into my computer directly and plug it into my box...Well it does not connect.....Do I need to reboot? Is it the cable? Should I just go buy the xbox connect cable to make sure I have it right? Thanx all

I believe this is covered in the the tutorial on how to connect and load evox.

Anycase, use a regular patch cable (rj-45) and hook both, xbox and PC, into your router/hub/switch. You can examine the lights on the router/hub/switch for connectivity and activity.

Now you need to configure your xbox's IP address and ftp settings. This is done via editting the evox.ini or through evox system settings. To configure your xbox onto your network, you need to know a little bit of local area networking. First off, your subnet mask and default gateway should be the same for both xbox and PC. For your xbox, you should have set to a static IP address. The IP address that you assign to the xbox should coincide with the IP on your PC, except for the last 3 sets of numbers, which should be unique. Save your xbox settings, reboot, run ftp on your PC, punch in your xbox's static IP that you assigned, userid, and password, and you should be in.

Grrrrrrrrrr......I hate to be a little snippy sometimes....But I need to vent. ;-)

Trust me...I have read the Stickys A LOT.....hehe....

I have 3 xboxes hooked up to my network and they all work great. I am trying to hook ONE box to my laptop via a crossover cable to a laptop or another computer at work......Everything works great using the router option, but I need to set it up using the crossover cable and NO ROUTER. I think my cable must be bad...because it should be as simple as using the same settings and just using the crossover...But I can not connect....Weird.....
I backed up Fable and Guilty Gear today...via router....no dice with crossover

hehe....Sorry man....I hate it also when people ask questions that could be easliy obtained by searching......But this is not covered anywhere...I think..

Later all

Well, first, you have to make sure you xbox has a static IP. Routers usually asign one to devices, however, the software will have to do it since the router is not there. They should be in the dashboard settings which support ftp. Your PC will act like the cable isn't plugged into anything at all if the xbox hasn't got an IP.

Next, you have to asign your computer one. For same reasons as the xbox, none is asigned to your PC. Chaddy made a small tutorial on my site on how to do this here:
http://www.xbox-beyond.com/crosscable.htm

After your xbox and you PC have IP's (xbox will need to be reset after changing settings), you should be able to connect to the IP you set on your xbox.
