im useing neo 2.2 on ps2 3003r also useing region x disk .my playstation dose not work till its been on 4 a bit.then only loading a few games most of the games im trying are pal ps1 games.just finding it a bit hit or miss.this is the way ido the swap trick 1.put in region x press start 2.open tray take out region x disk 3.put in copy of ps1 game 4.shut draw by pushing it in this is timed at 5sec. what 2more sec then press reset.
The correct way of using Region X to boot backup PS2 games (non-EA method) is as follows:

a Put the DVDRX boot disk in the drive and cold boot the PS2
b When you see the region numbers on the TV, eject the DVDRX disk
c Place the backup game into the tray (there is no time limit)
d Press EJECT to put the tray back in
e Press START on your controller when the tray is in
f After a few seconds, the game should boot

If your NEO2.2 doesn't permit this behaviour, then it is mis-installed.

Keep us informed please.

I'm on a PAL PS2 30003 V5 board with Neo 2.2 & AR2 V2.

Be sure to hold the reset button for 3/4 seconds when you start the machine. (no longer than 5 secs though).

Try this:

1. Insert the AR2 v2 disc and boot.
2. Select "start game".

Swap the disc now with your PS2 copy. No rush, in your own time.

3. Then select start without cheats. When the screen turns to "swap disc & press X" , just keep pressing X (steady pace, but you don't have to go mad!) until the screen dis-appears and the game loads.

Don't know if this will be any good for you but it works fine for me & it might be worth a go.

Good luck.

i had the same problem, i could load ea games fine and even boot non-ea games but booting non-ea games with the ar2 would end up in it freezing at that screen after i press x.

this is the way i do it now, and if timed right works every time for me

get to the screen - after start game -> without codes, eject the ar2 cd and replace with backup. then close tray - wait a few seconds and you'll here the ps2 spin the disc a bit, if you try it once you will hear it spins up a bit and then at the end it makes a different souns. if you press x just before the last sound it will start.
