Neo 2.2 problems loading ps2

Can anyone please help me.
Having fitted a neo 2.2 mod chip I find that all my ps2 backups will only load using the ea swap method. (even though I patched all the games)
I am using an AR 2 Cart with a neo 2.2 mod my ps2 is a 30003 v4.
This is okay but I'm worried that it will take its toll on my ps2 console, as the tray slams in and out.
Also psx backups will only load by switching on and when the ps2 screen appears pressing reset.
Then they load fine.
Having checked the usual forums nobody else seems to be having the same trouble as me.
Can Anyone please help with this problem?

Unless anyone else responds positively, check through the past 30 days' posts. I think I recall seeing something nearly identical and its resolution. It'll be a slog but worth it I hope. Maybe it was incorrectly wired pins.

Hi,

Where did you get your booting methods from??

Check out www.psxcopyworld.co.uk on there you will find my booting methods.

Also do you def have the NEO2.2 mod not a 2.5 these chips are very similar but the 2.5 seems to boot backups more the EA method.

Cheers

Dal

Hi
First of all thanks to Charlie and Dal for your replies.
After back tracking through the last 30 days post I could not find the same problem, although it is possible I missed it, as there were so many other interesting notes.

I have tried several other boot methods such as the ones from ps2ownz.com
The method I use seems to be the only one that works. The mod chip I use is a neo 2.2. One I programmed my self with the code from maxking.
Could the code be wrong or could the micro controller be faulty. I have done every model of psx with no problems. This one is a pain.
Any more suggestions

P.S where can I get code for Neo 2.5 if this is better.
Thanks Adders

Well it should have been 60 days. Vinnie-m2tm (search) on 03-11-01 had a sort of similar problem. The result was inconclusive because he never came back on the outcome but you could mail him

So let's go back to basics. I'll need a few questions to be answered please.

1 What non EA games fail to load by the AR2 method? Are any of them JAP?
2 How were such games produced in backup form?
3 Pls detail step by step what happens in the failed AR2 method?
4 Pls confirm that the 8 wire installation has been checked and double checked

We're ata a distance and don't have the advantage of knowing what's in your head!

Hi Charlie
(1) What non EA games fail to load by the AR2 method? Are any of them JAP?
(Answer) Crazy Taxi, Smugglers run, Etreme G racing all the games are PAL
(2) How were such games produced in backup form?
(Answer) Games were copied using Cdrwin and I have copied well over 100 psx games using cdrwin.
(3) Pls detail step by step what happens in the failed AR2 method?
(answer) I just followed the ps2 backups boot instructions from Playstation mods.com and other sites.
(4) Pls confirm that the 8 wire installation has been checked and double checked
(answer) yes I have checked the 8 wire connection several times and found no problems.
I got the wiring scedule from playstation mods web site.

(a) insert Ar2 Cd1
(b) power off for 5 secs
(c) turn on (the machine boots into menu screen
(d) select start game
(e) select without codes
(f) press eject
(g) swap ar2 with ps2 backup
(h) press eject to close
(I) press x as soon as the tray closes or
(j) press o+r1(this does not work with my ar2 v2)
it then says the game should now load but the screen freezes

I hope we are not in the unknown realms of AR2/v2! I know nothing about it!

Here's what I recommend if you haven't already tried it:

1 From CDR-Info, download CLONYXL
2 From www.elby.de download CloneCD
3 Run each game against CLONYXL (use SCAN) to obtain CloneCD parameters
4 Invoke CloneCD from CLONYXL and copy the games (via HDD)

It may be that CDRWin isn't up to it because of sub-channel data. I stress that I haven't researched the games to see if they have that protection method.

Also, you might care to get DVD Region X and use that as the boot method in case it's an AR2 problem. It's a lot easier than AR2 - you sswap your disk in when you see the region numbers and press START. If it doesn't boot then the CD is no good.

From where did you get these games? Do youi have a CD from which you are making a copy that works normally?

Thanks Charlie
I shall down load your Recommendations.

Crazy taxi is my own game and works fine.
All the others are originals and they also work fine.
The backups them self after using the ea boot method also seem to work ok.
The problem is i dont like the ea boot method as it could damage the disk tray when it fires in and out.
It does look to me like a AR2 problem but why is nobody else having this problem or are they.

I would like to hear from anybody with a 30003 v4, neo 2.2, and an Action Replay v2 cartridge.
Is there anybody using this setup without any problems.

Best wishes and a merry Xmas

Hi , i'm using the neo2.2 mod and ar2 v2 my backups work fine with out using the ea method.
but it won't load dvdr coppies. it even worked with the neo key, so that might narrow it down for you either you mod or ar2 v2 is faulty

Regards, Chris

Thanks lukey
Its good to know someone else is using the same setup as me and theres works okay.
Atleast I can attempt to remedy the fault now.
I think I will change my neo2.2 pic and fit a new one.

Just a thought is your ps2 a 30003 v4.
I will still change my neo sometime in the next few days.
Thanks and merry xmas adders.

Thanks for your reply

I found the first thing I needed to do was adjust the cd laser to just over 600 ohms.
Do not adjust your DVD as this may affect your films.
This improved the hit and miss Scenario.
when runing psx games I found this method most sucessfull.
(1) Insert psx game.
(2) switch off for 5 secs
(3) switch on
(4) when the ps2 boots up and goes to the red screen press reset.
The game should now load ok, I found this works on over 90% of psx games.

Try this and please let me know what happens

Merry xmas and good luck
