Over adjusted laser

Hi, was adjusting the laser cog, and adjusted around an entire rotation counter clockwise, it made a skipping noise, which I then realized was a spot on the gear with no teeth. I tried to rotate it back clockwise, but it won't turn past those missing teeth, even when I push the gear holder out of the way so it's not touch ing the gear any more.

Anyone ever seen this before? Does the position simply default back to the same position on each rotation? How can I get it back if it doesn't?

Thanks
