Playing NTSC on PAL PS2?

Hello, I'm a European owner of a PAL PS2, like most people in Europe. I use alot of my time to play PSX games on my PS2, and collect games from different series. However, one of the games I want the most is almost impossible to obtain as a PAL copy, but rather easy to find as a NTSC. Is it possible for me to play an NTSC PSX game on my PAL PS2? That's just basically my question. If not - how can I do it?

Thank you very much for your time!

If you haven't put a modchip into your PS2, it is time now. Apart from being able to play backups, and keeping your precious originals in a safe place, you'll also be able to play games from the "wrong half of the world", too...

Ha ha, you're probably right it's about time. But it is illegal, right? To modify your PS2 in that way.

Anyways, are there any links etc. you can give me? Is it possible to do this yourself? I think I read somewhere that you needed to sold or something with the electronics .. I'm no good at that stuff, but if there's a good step-by-step instruction I might be able to do it though. Any good advice here?

If you have never soldered before its probably better to get a Pro. The best chips on the market ATM is the Matrix infinity and the Crystal chips and in some Countrys it is illegal (Not sure about Norway) but you can still find a chip and get it installed. Be patient and look around. You can also contact Lufcfan. He may know someone close to you that can help

I've looked at some sites and I can see that alot of stores have a selection of CDs, aswell. Will these work just as well? This seems to me like the better alternative, since I probably have to pay someone to install the chip etc. plus the chips seems to sell for more.

Nah - Those CDs are absolutely useless. No substitute for a real, soldered mod solution.

Well, do you need much experience with soldering to do it? Does it come with instructions etc? Is it that hard to do if I have someone that has experience with electronics to do it?

I'd say Yes, you do need quite a bit of experience soldering in order to fit one of these things successfully. Providing you have someone who has soldered to modern PCBs with small components then you should be fine. But a word of warning, the diagrams are blown up, and components are not that size in reality!

You can get diagrams from the manufacturers website, therefore, you need to decide which chip you want and your console version before finding the relevant diagram...

Swap Magic 3.6 works ok, despite the modders active encouragement of chips! Boots Pal and Ntsc games.
Chips may well work better, but i play all backups on my ps2 without problems (so far, before they all but in )
