Depending on your modchip you may have to patch the game with the Toxic DL Patcher.

Thank you for this question. I too was wondering the same thing. Trying to back-up midnight club dub edition, and bulletproof, and have written 2 dl discs, and neither were successful. I have the matrix infinity chip, with the 1.82 s/w on it (ps2 V12 slim). Can anyone provide me with a positive answer if this patch is what is needed for compatibility with dual layers for me? Thanks a ton all!!!

You shouldnt need a patcher with the MI. You do need to update the Firmware, I think the latest is 1.88

Well, I tried it again, with the patch, and still no luck. So, I have one with the patch, and one without. So, now I guess I need to get technical... lol

Chip is matrix infinity v1.82 firmware. (I'm not sure how to upgrade this, so that may be an issue I need to address....)

Burned straight iso write mode with dvd decrypter. (no buffer probs, or skips)
Drive is Pioneer DL dvd+-r model DVR-710.
Verbatim Media DL
Game attempted is Midnight Club Dub Edition.

If anyone may know what the problem could be, or what may be done to correct this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have no idea what I could be doing wrong, as it seems like it should all work. Just out of curiosity, should the book type be changed in writing to dvd-rom, instead of dvd+r? Thought I saw somewhere that that could be an issue as well. I hate wasteing these DL discs, so I thought I better ask a few noob questions, as to not have any more issues. Thanks again all!

O.k., yet another update.... I have updated the Infinity chips firmware to 1.88. Also, have went into the boot menu of the infinity chip, and made sure that dvd-9 support was on. But, for the life of me, I still can not get either one of the discs to boot. (Either the patched, or unpatched one.) Not sure what the problem may be. I'm not getting red screen of death, rather 'unable to read disc' message. Any ideas anyone? You guys are the pros here, I'm just learning... hehe THANKS!
