To answer your question no you won’t notice anything different when you boot up your modded PS2 unlike when you boot up your modded Xbox. Like Sean said the PS2 chips are for the most part invisible and just allow you to boot your back-ups. To expand on what Warlock said, a good way to test if your chip is patching the bios correctly is to boot a DVD movie up according to the Apple Pro's boot instructions for booting a PS2 game. If it plays then there is something wrong (I know this sounds strange). If it doesn’t play and it goes to the browser screen and has the gold PS2 disc on the screen (the PS2 thinks the DVD movie is a PS2 game because the chip has told the PS2 to recognize the media as such) that’s a good indication that you have installed it correctly.
