Actually I couldn't find anything on the web regarding this specific issue. It'd be nice if someone could post me a diagram showing the alternative soldering points for these 6. Everytime I found a diagram on how to solder a Magic 3.1 into a V3 console I was the same as posted above.

I guess the friend who is going to solder the chip in tonight has something like a continuity tester, so if I tell him what you told me he should know what to do, right?

Yup. Just need to find the VIAs on the back of the board that correspond with those pins. Not too tough if you have another guy holding the board and one of the probes... they're all in the right "general vicinity".

Just do NOT forget to scrape off the plastic once you figure out which VIA is which, otherwise the solder just won't stick and the connections will be bad.

I guess it can't be helped, I'll have to send my console in to have it chipped. Hope I'll finde someone with decent prices, after all the PS 2 is already disassembled and the Neo removed.

I wouldnt install a no-swap chip in any console older than a v5, especially the magic chips, You may be setting yourself up for a letdown depending on how much damage the neo chip has already done to the laser and the fact the v3 had weak lasers. Re-assemble the console, sell it and get a v7 with messiah.

That's what somone on another board told me as well, but I don't play that much on my PS 2 so I think the Neo couldn't have done too much harm, despite the fact that I hardly played backups but ran the originals instead. Not using the PS 2 too often, I bought the Magic mostly because of its low price and its capability of booting dvd-r media.

Yeah, my V4 is in mint condition, despite 2 years of a Neo2.5+DVDR - I mostly played PSX/PS2 CD backups and original DVD's.

The Apple in there now works a treat.

P.S. That said... I'm unsure about the V3. Good luck!
