V7 PS2 remod acting weird

I'm posting this for my friend and I think this is all that's happening. He has a V7 PS2 and up until 3-4 days ago he had a magic 3 installed until last week where he removed that one and installed a Duo 2 SE. Here's the problem it was working fine at first everything booted up but today he was playing a backup of GTA: SA the disc came out so he put the tray back in and after about 10 minutes the tray flew out (pretty quickly he said) after that he said the eject button wouldn't work. The ribbon for the eject and reset are fine but where he just used the wires from the previous install of the magic 3 swapping whatever and taking whatever off probably something screwed up. Could a wire coming loose cause this?
